PM Modi & Manipur CM Inaugurate Craft Handloom Village Amidst Rs 55,600 Cr NE Development Unveiling

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a historic moment in the development trajectory of India’s North East region during his address at the Viksit Bharat Viksit North East Programme in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh on 9th March,2024. In a significant stride towards progress, the Prime Minister inaugurated and dedicated multiple development projects amounting to approximately Rs 55,600 crore across Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh. Among these, Manipur received a substantial allocation, with projects worth over Rs 3400 crore set to transform various sectors within the state.

In Manipur, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stones for several crucial initiatives aimed at bolstering infrastructure and enhancing essential services. These included the construction of Unity Mall at Nilakuthi, the development of infrastructure for the Processing Zone of Manipur IT SEZ at Mantripukhri, the establishment of a 60-bedded state mental hospital at Lamphelpat to provide specialized psychiatric care, and the augmentation of infrastructure for Manipur Technical University located in Imphal West.

Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated a slew of road projects and water supply schemes, reinforcing the commitment to holistic development and improved connectivity across Manipur and beyond.

Chief Minister N Biren, speaking at a formal function held at the City Convention Centre, expressed gratitude for the transformative impact witnessed under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. Highlighting the projects virtually inaugurated and foundation stones laid, Chief Minister Biren emphasized the significant investment in Manipur’s development, totaling approximately Rs 3500 crore. These projects encompassed a wide spectrum, including roads under CRIF, water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and the establishment of a craft handloom village at Moirang.

Acknowledging the importance of transparency, Chief Minister Biren clarified that while the craft handloom village project was initially sanctioned in the village of Mirabai Chanu, its completion is pending. The formal function, attended by dignitaries including Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education Dr. RK Ranjan, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, and various ministers and MLAs, underscored the collective commitment towards realizing the vision of a prosperous and inclusive Manipur.

The ceremony, graced by the presence of senior administrative and police officers, epitomized a collaborative endeavor towards fostering sustainable growth and ensuring the well-being of the people of Manipur.
